Madrid part 2

Wróciłam już z Walencji i szybko zabieram się za drugą część relacji wyjazdu do Madrytu, jako że mam caaaaaałe mnóstwo materiału na nowe posty.

I've already come back from Valencia and I just quickly want to make a second post about Madrid, as I have a craaaazy lot of other photos to publish here. 

Palacio de Cibeles (The Cibeles Palace)

Okolice Paseo del Prado / The neighbourhood of Paseo del Prado

Ciekawie trafiłyśmy, bo w tym czasie odbywał się strajk ludzi odpowiadających za porządek w mieście (tzw. limpieza). Wprawdzie było już po manifestacjach ale zdjęcia obrazują, jak wyglądała sytuacja nieco później, widać wszędzie rozsypane śmieci i spalone kosze. Tego typu manifestacje i strajki w ostatnim czasie w Hiszpanii tylko się nasilają, a biorących w nich udziału nie brakuje. 

At the time we were exploring Madrid, there was a strike of people responsible for keeping the streets clean (so-called limpieza). Admittedly the manifestations were over but the pictures show what was the situation like after a while, there was rubbish everywhere and many dustbins were burnt. Such kind of manifestations and strikes have lately been intensified and there is increasing number of people taking part in it.

Museo del Prado

Udało nam się na szczęście wejść do muzeum, chociaż turystów nie brakowało. Można by tam spędzić cały  dzień, my niestety nie miałyśmy wystarczająco czasu żeby na spokojnie zobaczyć wszystko, załapałyśmy się  jednak na wystawę Velázquez y la familia de Felipe IV, zatrzymałyśmy się też przy najbardziej interesujących nas autorach. 

Zdecydowanie polecam zwiedzanie tego miejsca będąc w Madrycie (dla studentów wejście jest darmowe!).

Luckily, we made our entrance to the museum, although there was plenty of tourists. 

One could have spent the whole day there, unfortunately we didn't have enough time to see everything at leisure, 

but we did manage to see the the exhibition Velázquez en the family of Philip IV, 

we also stopped by the authors we find the most interesting. I highly recommend visiting this place while being in Madrid 

(there is a free entrance for students, at least for those who are attending spanish universities).

Na lunch poszłyśmy do baru tapas w okolicach muzeum Reina Sofia, tutaj patatas bravas i montaditos. 

As for the lunch we went to the tapas bar near the museum Reina Sofia, here you can see patatas bravas and montaditos.

Nie ominęła nas również krótka podróż w celu zobaczenia stadionu Realu Madryt. W tym czasie reprezentacja grała mecz na Camp Nou, więc nie trafiłyśmy z miastami. 

We also didn't miss a short trip to see the stadium of Real Madrid. At the same time the team was playing at Camp Nou, so we chose the wrong city, haha.

Niektóre hasła reklamowe i samo podejście Hiszpanów do sytuacji ekonomicznej w kraju potrafią rozbawić.

Some of the slogans or advertisements, as well as the Spaniards' attitude towards the economic situation in the country can be amusing sometimes. 

Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía

Bardzo mi się podobał już sam budynek muzeum. Fakt, że powstał w dawnym gmachu szpitala nadaje mu dodatkowego charakteru. Najbardziej oblegana była oczywiście Guernica Picassa. Na 3. piętrze jest taras widokowy, niestety tego dnia był zamknięty (a przynajmniej mi nie udało się wejść). W określonych godzinach w czasie weekendu wstęp do muzeum jest bezpłatny.

I really liked the building of the musem itself. The fact that it was once an 18th-century hospital makes it more interesting and characteristic. The most crowded area was of course in front of the Pablo Picasso's painting Guernica. On the third floor there is an observation deck, but unfortunately closed that day (at least I couldn't go up to get there). At certain hours during the weekends the entrance to the museum is for free.

Nieopodal znajduje się dworzec kolejowy Atocha, w którym miał miejsce słynny atak terrorystyczny.

Nearby there is Atocha railway station, where the train bombings took place in 2004.

Kolejne tapas (patatas bravas z ali oli, krewetki w cieście i pizza). W Madrycie warto spróbować bocadillo de calamares (mi brakowało w tej kanapce jakiegoś sosu lub innych dodatków, chyba zrobię kiedyś swoją wersję) oraz chocolate con churros (chociaż to akurat można dostać w całej Hiszpanii).

Some othere tapas (patatas bravas with ali oli, shrimp sticks and a pizza). While visiting Madrid it is worth trying bocadillo de calamares (although I could have add some sauce or any other ingredients to it, maybe I'll make my own customised version someday) and chocolate con churros (but this one is actually known everywhere in Spain).

El Arco de la Victoria and Faro de Moncloa

Szkoda było odjeżdżać, mając ochotę zobaczyć jeszcze tyle różnych miejsc, ale nic straconego- na pewno jeszcze tam wrócę!

It was a pity to leave while thinking that I could have seen much more different places, but it doesn't matter because I'm sure I'll come back there!

Postards from Madrid

W zeszły weekend (25-27 października) pojechałam z koleżanką do Madrytu. Tego posta miałam zamieścić jakoś niedługo po powrocie, ale ostatni tydzień był dla mnie strasznie zabiegany i nie miałam czasu żeby to zrobić. Całą relację podzielę na 2-3 posty, bo chcę to w miarę dokładnie opisać, jako że udało nam się całkiem sporo rzeczy zobaczyć. Pierwsze wrażenie: bardzo ciekawa architektura, godne podziwu muzea i zróżnicowanie kulturowe względem południowej Hiszpanii. Cóż, w końcu to stolica. Madryt jest ogromny, ale też bardzo zatłoczony, momentami nie dało się przejść ulicą, bo ludzie nachodzili na siebie. Szczerze powiedziawszy, te trzy, a właściwie dwa dni to zdecydowanie za mało na zwiedzanie miasta, ale starałyśmy się czerpać z pobytu jak najwięcej (wliczając nieprzespane noce).

English version: Last weekend (from 25th till 27th of October) me and my friend travelled to Madrid. I was supposed to make this post much earlier (after coming back), but the last couple of days were quite busy for me and I didn't have proper time to do so. I will divide my report into 2/3 seperate posts, so that everything will be clear and I will have a chance to describe the things as precisely as possible. The first impression: I found the city having a really interesting architecture, the museums are worth-visiting and the culture is different than in the south Spain. Well, it's a capital city, after all. Madrid is huge, but also very crowded, sometimes we had difficulties into getting through plenty of people, they were everywhere, running into each other. Frankly, those three, or actually two days were definitely not enough for sightseeing, but we tried to enjoy every moment (including restless nights).

Mercado de San Miguel- it used to be an ordinary market, now very popular among tourist and kind of exclusive (unfortunately, we didn't make our entrance)

Palacio Real (Royal Palace)

The garden on the back of the Royal Palace, it has a really pretty paths and it's so nice to finally see more real grass in Spain

Edificio España (Spain Building, one of the tallest in Madrid), which reminds me a little bit of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. In front there is a monument of Miguel de Cervantes.

Metro w Madrycie to jeden z największych wydatków naszej wycieczki. No cóż, takie uroki zwiedzania dużych miast, zresztą ceny w większości stolic są takie, jeśli chodzi o metro właśnie. Jednakże, był to chyba najbardziej wygodny środek do poruszania się po mieście (nie biorę pod uwagę spacerowania, chodzi mi jedynie o transport publiczny). Wkrótce pojawi się więcej postów, w razie czego będę też dopisywała informacje pod zdjęciami. 

I found using the underground in Madrid quite expensive, but it is what always happens in capital cities all over the world, I guess. Anyway, it was one of the best ways of moving around the city (not including walking, I only refer to public transport). Soon there will be more pictures, I will also try to add more descriptions under the photos, everything in time. 

Sierra Espuña

W zeszły piątek byłam na koncercie zespołu Editors, który zagrał w Plaza de Toros w Murcii (świetne miejsce na koncerty, szkoda nie może ono służyć wyłącznie do wydarzeń muzycznych i kulturowych),  następnego dnia zaś dla odmiany wybrałam się ze znajomymi w góry. Plan był prosty: mieliśmy zebrać ekipę kilkunastu osób, spakować namioty i śpiwory i rozbić się na kampingu w Sierra Espuña. 

ENGLISH VERSION: Last Friday I went to the Editors concert, they came to Murcia and played in Plaza de Toros (such a great place for music events, what a shame it was originally designed for something else). The next day, for a change, me and some of my friends arranged a trip to the mountains. The plan was to gather a group of several people, pack up sleeping bags and tents and then to pitch camp in Sierra Espuña.

Po dotarciu na miejsce i rozpakowaniu się zaczęliśmy przygotowywać jedzenie na grilla. Później już do końca dnia i połowy następnego cały czas jedliśmy, więc nie ma moich zdjęć, bo nie zmieściłam się w obiektywie. 

After arriving where previously planned and unpacking stuff we started preparing the barbecue. Since then we were just sitting and eating until the next day, that's the reason why I'm not captured on the pictures (I couldn't fit in the camera screen because of the overweight, oops).

Jako że nie lubię bierności i siedzenia na tyłku jeśli to zbędne, postanowiłyśmy z grupą dziewczyn wybrać się w góry na spacer. Zdjęcia nie oddają rzeczywistego uroku okolicy, niestety.

As the matter of the fact that I just don't like passivity as well as sitting in one place when unnecessary, me and some of the girls decided to hike and see the landscape. Unfortunately, the photos cannot truly reveal the charm of the mountains.

Chciałyśmy dojść na ten szczyt, który widać powyżej (wcale nie było to tak blisko jakby się wydawać mogło), ale zaczęło się ściemniać a trzy kobity samotne w nieznanych górach to nienajlepsza perspektywa na noc, chyba że dla ratowników górskich. 

We really did wanted to climb on the summit shown above (I swear it wasn't that close as it seems to be) , but it was getting darker and the perspective of three women wandering in the unknow during the night wasn't just appealing to us.

To już droga powrotna następnego dnia. Jadąc przełęczami bardzo fajnie widać pobliskie miasteczka i samą Murcię, ale nie udało mi się tego uchwycić, jako że się spieszyliśmy.

And that is already our way back on the next day. By driving through the mountains we could see the nearby towns, as well as Murcia by itself. I couldn't capture it right, because we didn't take any stop, so that is what I managed to snap.

Caravaca de la Cruz

W minioną sobotę wybrałam się ze znajomymi do miejscowości Caravaca de la Cruz (póki co zwiedzam lokalne miejscowości nieopodal Murcii, ale w planach mam również podróże o zdecydowanie dalszym zasięgu). Miasteczko jest głównie znane jako miejsce kultu, znajduje się tam sanktuarium będące bardzo znanym celem pielgrzymek. Moim zdaniem warto je odwiedzić nie tylko ze względów religijnych, polecam zobaczyć średniowieczny zamek znajdujący się na wzgórzu, widoki są warte zachodu. Wąskie uliczki i wzgórza okalające okolicę nadają temu miejscu bardzo ciekawy klimat, my w dodatku byłyśmy tam w dniu święta narodowego (Fiesta Nacional de España, innymi słowy Columbus Day), więc było bardzo mało ludzi na ulicach. Wybawienie dla ludzi mojego pokroju, które tłum napierających na siebie ludzi po prostu przeraża (dzisiaj postanowiłam zerwać bliskie znajomości z komunikacją miejską, ale zobaczymy co z tego wyjdzie). 

English version: Last Saturday I arranged a trip with some of my friends to a city called Caravaca de la Cruz (at the moment, I'm trying to see as much as possible within the Murcia region, but I have plans to visit more places farther away).

The place is best known for the Christian relic and many people make a pilgrimage to get there and see the sanctuary. I consider it worth visiting not only for the religious people, but for everyone, as it has (for example) a medieval castle situated on the hill. Standing on the top of it, you can see the panorama of the neighbourhood and it's breathtaking. The narrow streets and the mountain surrounding make the place so charming. What is more, we went there during the Columbus Day (Fiesta Nacional de España), so the city was almost empty and peaceful, which was such a blessing for me, as I really hate crowded spots (today I've even promised myself not to use the urban transport anymore, let's see if this works).

Calblanque

Jakieś dwa tygodnie temu wybrałam się nad morze, na plażę w Calblanque. Z lekkim opóźnieniem (ale zawsze) pokazuję kilka zdjęć, które udało mi się zrobić w tym cudownym miejscu. Jest ono zaliczane jako obszar chronionego krajobrazu.Widoki są naprawdę warte obejrzenia, udało nam się zrobić kilka zdjęć z pobliskich skał. 

English version: About two weeks ago I went to Calblanque, situated on the seaside. We spent the whole day laying on the beach, taking pictures and enjoying a lovely weather. I captured some marvellous views over there, some of them taken from the top of the rocks nearby. I loved the place, it is rated among nature reserve.

Cartagena

Tydzień temu, podczas weekendu wybrałam się do Kartageny. Miasto jest oddalone o jakieś 40-50km od Murcji i ma bardzo ciekawą historię. Po przyjeździe zostałam przywitana deszczem i bardzo nieprzyjemną pogodą, z tego też powodu nie udało mi się zwiedzić muzeów, tak jak planowałam. Na miejscu czekały na mnie znajome, jedna z nich pochodzi z Kartageny i oprowadzała nas po mieście. 

English version: Last weekend I went to Cartagena, a city with a 40-50km distance from Murcia, with a really interesting history behind it. I was welcomed with a heavy rain and a really bad weather, ugh. That was one of the reasons why we didn't visit the museums, as planned before. When I came, my friends had already been waiting for me, one of them comes from Cartagena so she was showing us some parts of the city.

Po zwiedzeniu portu byłyśmy zaproszone na obiad, a później pojechałyśmy na kawę. Nie jestem przyzwyczajona do dokumentowania tego co jem, ale akurat miałam przy sobie aparat, kiedy poszłyśmy do kawiarni. Tu tzw. café blanco y negro, będąc w Hiszpanii polecam spróbować, różni się od zwykłej, mrożonej kawy. 

After seeing the port, we went for the dinner and afterwards, for the coffee. I'm not used to be taking pictures of everything I eat, but actually I had a camera with me, so I thought at least coffee will be snapped. Here you can see so-called café blanco y negro. I really recommend trying it while visiting Spain, as it's slightly different than just an ice coffee.

Następnie wybrałyśmy się na tzw. średniowieczny targ, który obfitował w różnego rodzaju przysmaki, rękodzieła, itd. Były tez karuzele i inne atrakcje przygotowane z okazji święta Cartagineses y Romanos.

Then, we went to the Medieval Market, which was full of different kinds of delicacies, handicrafts, etc. There were also carousels and other attractions, due to the festival of Cartagineses y Romanos.

Pod koniec dnia zaczęło się bardzo ochładzać, a wiatr przybierał na sile, co widać na zdjęciu powyżej. Uważam Kartagenę za niezwykle urocze miasto, na pewno warte zwiedzenia. Mam nadzieję, że to nie był mój pierwszy i ostatni raz w tym miejscu i że uda mi się wrócić, by zobaczyć więcej.

By the end of the day, the wind was getting stronger, what you can verify by watching the picture above. I find Cartagena a charming place and really worth-visiting, so I'm sure this wasn't my last time there and I will come back to see more.
